Regular Season LLFHL Eastern Champions Earn Silver at Championship Weekend
In our inaugural season representing the Cold Creek Comets, our Atom BB team has achieved a great deal of success. The latest and most esteemed accomplishment to date took place this past weekend. After finishing with an impressive first place LLFHL record of 21-1-0 and advancing through three rounds of playoffs, the Beeline Sports Atom BB team earned a birth into the "Best of the Best" Championship weekend representing the Eastern Division. As Eastern Division Champs, we were joined by the Central East Division Champions from North York, the West Division representative of Woolwich and the Central Division Champions from Burlington.
The Comets dropped our first game of this prestigious tournament, losing 3-0 to Woolwich Wild with a subpar performance. After gaining some much needed and valuable advice from the coaching staff, the Atom BB team regrouped to face North York Storm. Having played this team twice previously in the season, one game ending in a Comets victory and the other in a loss, these teams proved to be evenly matched and in Champ weekend played to a scoreless tie. Charlie Evans made some fantastic saves, keeping the shutout alive.
On day two of the tournament our incredible group of girls showed up to the arena reenergized and looking like the team we have been all season. Facing the Burlington Baracudas, the Comets opened up the scoring on a goal from Jordyn McAskill, assisted by Sophie Harold. Scoring continued from a pointshot by Lilly Stevenson, Harold (2), assisted by Brielle Osborne, Sadie Munro and Jaime Hellam before Emily Stewart added an empty netter. Samantha Trites earned the complete game shutout making some great saves and with help from a strong defence core of Sydney Rock, Kenzie O'Neill, Lilly Stevenson, Isabelle Herron and Isabel Mason. The balance of the team is made up of Meadow Ward and Isla Robinson.
Facing the very best teams in the Atom BB division of the LLFHL Championship was the greatest challenge our Cold Creek Comets have experienced all season and we made it to the Gold Medal game to once again face the Woolwich Wild. With 8.5 seconds to go in the second period, Woolwich scored the game winning goal and would add a second goal on a penalty shot with less than two minutes to play in the game.
For the Cold Creek Comets Atom BB team, the core group of players have played together for only three years and to achieve a silver medal at Championship weekend is an incredible feat. Our team is supported by a fantastic group of parents, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and siblings and is coached by an amazing staff of Bob McAskill, Jeff Stewart and Dave Evans, with Jen Osborne as the trainer and Danielle Rock as the Manager.
